On Friday, 2 May 2025, St Francis Credit Union welcomed members of the local community to celebrate the reopening of its Sixmilebridge branch – now boasting a more modern banking experience after an extensive refurbishment project.

While the branch has quietly been back in operation for some time, the event on a sunny Friday was a special opportunity to thank members for their continued support. Guests enjoyed tea, cake, and St Francis Credit Union gift bags in a warm and festive atmosphere.

The event wasn’t just a grand reopening – it was a celebration of our community. With over €160,000 invested in the interior modernisation of the iconic building, the refurbishment focused on both member comfort and environmental responsibility. Improvements included upgraded heating, modern insulation, reworked electrics, and energy-efficient internal fittings – all while preserving the unique heritage of this historically protected building. Where possible, local suppliers from County Clare were engaged, underlining SFCU’s commitment to the local economy.

The Sixmilebridge branch is the latest to benefit from St Francis Credit Union’s ongoing sustainability programme, which is based on four pillars: People, Planet, Processes, and Products. These form part of a wider initiative that started in 2020, which aims to reduce the environmental impact and improve the efficiency of our business across the county.

More refurbishments are planned in 2025, and we’re actively exploring the use of renewable energy in the future. As always, we’ll continue to share updates via our website and our annual Sustainability Report.

Thank you to everyone who joined us – and here’s to a greener future that will benefit us all!
